What is “perimenopause”? It’s a term for the years leading up to your final menstrual period — usually beginning sometime in your 40s. And those years can be FULL of changes.
(BTW…did you know that menopause isn’t official until you’ve gone 12 months without a period?)
A change in your menstrual period is often the first sign of perimenopause. This can include:
– A shorter or longer cycle than usual.
– Periods coming more OR less frequently.
– A lighter or heavier flow than usual.
– Spotting in between periods.
Perimenopause can also include the notorious symptoms like:
– Hot flashes
– Sleep trouble
– Vaginal dryness
– Mood swings
– Decreased libido
HOWEVER…it’s important to rule out any other underlying causes before assuming that perimenopause is the culprit.
So, if you’re experiencing any of these symptoms — make an appointment with your doctor!
